Sometimes life flows,
Anything goes,
Days filled with slam-dunks,
And sometimes life blows chunks.

The Grinch Was Not Alone
The Grinch was not the only one at all,
Who found his heart to be two sizes too small,
Truth is, without disrespect or derision,
For many, that’s the fallback position,
In order for them to show empathy,
One must first find their heart and break it free,
Break into their ivory tower and shine a light,
Show life is made of more than wrong and right,
It’s mistakes and growth, not just win and lose,
We should spend more time wearing other’s shoes.
Surfacing
Submerged for years,
I manage to find which way is up,
Then rise again to the surface of our love,
Gasping for your breath and your warmth,
But trying not to make a commotion,
Not to ruffle the waters,
Or splash the feathers of those around,
Which is useless I know,
My re-emergence is obvious,
For they stand on the shore,
All asking “What for?”
Not able to believe,
That I want nothing more than to stand by your side,
They’d be just as glad, to let me slide,
Back in,
They’d not begin to help me out,
But they’ll look to you,
And if you reach your hand to me,
They’ll grab on to you fast,
Until you at last,
Pull me to land,
Then they’ll stand and wait,
And expect me to answer.
In the morning….
…as he leaves the house he removes one of his earphones, leaving Kate Bush to serenade him on only one side for a moment. He does so partly so he can hear the sound of the children playing outside in the nursery school across the way, but mostly so he can hear them if they say hello, which they often do. He wouldn’t want them to think he ignored them. That would never do. Having passed the children and heading to the bus stop he restores his Kate Bush balance and begins his day.
Science Confirms (a seasonal reminder)
Science confirms,
To no great alarms,
You must come to terms,
If you’re in her arms,
That you’ll share her germs,
Along with her charms.
Modest Training Goals
Don’t want to be too skinny,
Or a muscle bound galoot,
With clothes that fall right off me,
Or make me seem a brute,
My training goals are modest,
Like the man that lies beneath,
Just want my belly not to jiggle,
Every time I brush my teeth.
WORDFEUD!
I’m not trying to be rude,
But you can see that I’m playing Wordfeud,
Keep on talking if you choose,
But my listening is just a ruse,
I don’t care, I must confess,
Whether or not your life’s a mess,
Don’t care what kind of shape you’re in,
I’m focused on this game to win,
I’ll listen to you – rest assured,
Just as soon as I find this word,
Till then I don’t care what you say,
I play to live and live to play!
Turning Fifty
Today I’m turning fifty,
And the thing that I’ve learned best,
Is one need not be religious,
To realise that one’s been blessed.
Love’s Phoenix Rising
It’s better to have loved and lost, than to not have loved at all,
Even better yet to find that love again,
Mistakes once made,
Won’t be replayed,
This will be the love that stayed,
I’m so much a better man since then,
With pages turned and lessons learned,
No more bridges to be burned,
Seems I may have earned myself a second chance,
I can’t say if you feel that way,
I’m working on it day by day,
Hoping you’ll give our love more than a passing glance,
It’s better to have loved and lost, than to not have loved at all,
Even better when it takes you by surprise,
No way to know what life will throw,
And things that happened long ago,
May not be quite the way you realize,
Things can change, and rearrange,
Time’s a magic strong and strange,
Ride you on the range to see if you come through,
Perspective unfolds naturally; time gives us new eyes to see,
I just hope you feel the same way too..
It’s better to have loved and lost, than to not have loved at all,
Even better yet to find that love was pure,
I know now what I didn’t then,
Won’t make the same mistakes again,
Got strength to stay and work things out for sure,
With pages turned and lessons learned,
No more crosses to be burned,
Seems I may have earned myself a second chance,
I can’t say if you feel that way,
I’m working on it day by day,
Hoping you’ll give our love more than a passing glance,
Hoping you’ll give our love more than a passing glance,
Cuz it’s better to have loved and lost, than to not have loved at all,
Even better,
When you find that love again.
Halloween!
Ghosts and goblins,
Zombies galore,
Vampires, werewolves,
At my door,
But most frightening,
Of all these apparitions,
Are the children dressed
As politicians!
