Love’s Phoenix Rising

It’s better to have loved and lost, than to not have loved at all,
Even better yet to find that love again,
Mistakes once made,
Won’t be replayed,
This will be the love that stayed,
I’m so much a better man since then,
With pages turned and lessons learned,
No more bridges to be burned,
Seems I may have earned myself a second chance,
I can’t say if you feel that way,
I’m working on it day by day,
Hoping you’ll give our love more than a passing glance,

It’s better to have loved and lost, than to not have loved at all,
Even better when it takes you by surprise,
No way to know what life will throw,
And things that happened long ago,
May not be quite the way you realize,
Things can change, and rearrange,
Time’s a magic strong and strange,
Ride you on the range to see if you come through,
Perspective unfolds naturally; time gives us new eyes to see,
I just hope you feel the same way too..

It’s better to have loved and lost, than to not have loved at all,
Even better yet to find that love was pure,
I know now what I didn’t then,
Won’t make the same mistakes again,
Got strength to stay and work things out for sure,
With pages turned and lessons learned,
No more crosses to be burned,
Seems I may have earned myself a second chance,
I can’t say if you feel that way,
I’m working on it day by day,
Hoping you’ll give our love more than a passing glance,
Hoping you’ll give our love more than a passing glance,
Cuz it’s better to have loved and lost, than to not have loved at all,
Even better,
When you find that love again.

  1. It depends on the type and quality of love lost. Tennyson was writing about the heartbreaking loss of his closest friend. Though he was devastated by the loss he knew that he was a better person for having known his late friend.

Then again, another way of looking at is:

“Owner of a lonely heart. Much better than a owner of a broken heart.”

    • I have had hundreds of clients over the years who wish they could experience the romantic kind of love even once in their lives. Sure, pain and loss comes with the territory, but hey, “that’s the story of, that’s the glory of love”.

    • Ah, more folkish than country I would think, but I try to resist the urge to classify too much. Was just a rough take as well, but I thought it would help convey the words.

  2. well deserved award.
