It used to be that honesty,
And hard work were rewarded.
The cheaters and the liars,
And the charletons were thwarted.
But now it’s all about success.
Honor and integrity, less and less.
Now ambition and a little greed,
Will take you very far, indeed.
The sad fact is the test cheaters,
Become the most successful leaders.
Still, no matter how far you go,
And no matter what you do.
Just know that there’s a special place,
In hell, reserved for you.
I love the word charleton. I really like the balance between the forced, slightly weaker stance (i.e. we can’t really do anything about it, and the little bastards cheating will probably go far) and the ending – a special place in hell reserved for you. That works for me. 😉
Thank you, Ken. I thought about this a lot and came to the conclusion that the qualities that we despise the most: dishonesty, cheating, greed, etc., while despicable in most people, are probably the most useful and desirable qualities in the people we elect to lead us.
Oh when did I get so cynical…
Maybe the current presidential campaign in the US has something to do with it.
